Shivling Inside Taj Mahal: Another Security Breach Sparks Controversy

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, the security of the Taj Mahal was once again breached. Meera Rathore, the district president of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha Mahila Morcha, managed to smuggle a Shivling inside the monument by concealing it in her hair bun.

She claimed that after entering the Taj Mahal around 10 AM on Wednesday, she placed the Shivling near the Mehmaan Khana and performed a ritualistic abhishek (offering) with Gangajal brought from the Mahakumbh. A video of the act was recorded by other members of her group and circulated on social media.

Meera Rathore justified her actions, stating, "I came to purify the Taj Mahal with Gangajal. I carried the Shivling and puja materials in my hair bun."

Security Failure or Deliberate Negligence?

The Taj Mahal, one of India’s most protected monuments, has strict security measures, prohibiting the entry of religious symbols, including Shivlings, idols, and incense sticks. This breach raises serious concerns over CISF security lapses. Currently, only door frame metal detectors and bag scanners are used at the eastern and western gates. The incident has reignited demands for installing full-body scanners at the Taj Mahal.

BJP’s Politics of Hatred Behind This?

The incident has also taken a political turn, with opposition parties blaming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for encouraging such acts as part of its divisive politics. Critics argue that this is another attempt by right-wing Hindu groups to push the narrative that the Taj Mahal was originally a Hindu temple (Tejo Mahalaya) and stir communal sentiments.

BJP and its affiliated groups have repeatedly targeted the Taj Mahal, questioning its origins and demanding that it be declared a Hindu site. This incident appears to be a deliberate provocation fueled by the BJP’s hate-driven political agenda.

Conflicting Claims on Video Authenticity

ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) official Prince Vajpayee stated that the video appears to be old, as no such footage was found in the CCTV recordings from Wednesday. However, Meera Rathore dismissed these claims, accusing ASI and CISF of lying. "They always deny our puja inside the Taj Mahal, but this video is from Shivratri itself. There was no reason to perform puja on any other day."

Lack of Surveillance & Rising Concerns

Despite facial recognition-enabled CCTV cameras installed inside and around the Taj Mahal, authorities failed to detect Meera Rathore’s entry and activities. This raises questions about police inefficiency and whether such acts are being intentionally ignored to allow the spread of right-wing propaganda.

Conclusion

This incident is not just a security lapse but also a reflection of India’s increasing communal polarization. If security was genuinely breached, it demands a serious investigation and stricter measures. However, if this is another politically motivated stunt, then it exposes how BJP’s divisive politics is using religious sentiments to create controversy and further its ideological goals.
