Brutal Murder of ASHA Worker in Jhansi, Police Searching for Accused


Jhansi: A shocking incident took place in the Masiha Ganj area of Sipri Bazaar police station limits on Saturday, where a young man brutally murdered an ASHA worker with a sword inside her home. The gruesome crime has sparked fear and outrage in the region.

Incident Details

Jyoti Devi, a 34-year-old resident of Tehrka village in Niwari district, Madhya Pradesh, was married to Lakhanlal Ahirwar of Masiha Ganj, Jhansi. Around 12:30 PM on Saturday, Jyoti was washing wheat on the terrace when the accused, Ankit Purohit, entered the house with his face covered and wielding a sword. He allegedly hurled caste-based abuses at Jyoti before attacking her, inflicting severe injuries on her limbs, abdomen, and chest.

Police Investigation & Action

Hearing Jyoti's screams, her niece Kashish rushed to the scene, but the accused pushed her away and fled. According to Jyoti’s husband, an Aadhaar card belonging to the accused was found at the crime scene. Police have registered a case against Ankit Purohit and two to three unidentified accomplices. Four teams have been deployed to track them down. CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused walking with a sword, his face covered with a cloth.

Public Outrage & Political Demands

Following the incident, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders visited the medical college, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Meanwhile, the police have sent the victim’s body for post-mortem and have intensified their investigation.
